Not vibe coding

An AI can build you an app this afternoon. So why not just do that?

Vibe coding asks an AI to write software, and hopes it is right. Reventless asks an AI to fill in a description your business agreed, and checks it against that description, every time.

The difference, one by one

On day one you cannot tell the two apart. Both start from words, both use AI, both show something running. The difference is in what the AI is asked to do, and in who checks it.

Vibe coding Reventless
What counts as the truth Vibe codingThe code the AI wrote. The conversation that produced it is gone. ReventlessYour description, your rules and your examples, in your own words. The code is derived from them and can be generated again.
Who checks it is right Vibe codingThe person clicking through it: it looks like it works. ReventlessYour own examples, run as tests on every change. The AI’s work is accepted only when they pass.
The structure Vibe codingWhatever the AI chose this time. The next request may choose differently. ReventlessOne fixed shape for every app. The AI fills in a form; it does not invent an architecture.
When nothing was said Vibe codingThe AI guesses, and the guess looks as confident as everything else. ReventlessThe tool asks you.
History Vibe codingRecords are overwritten. Nobody can say why a value is what it is. ReventlessEvery decision is kept. You can always answer who decided what, when and why.
Permissions and personal data Vibe codingWritten by the AI along with everything else. ReventlessDeclared, and enforced by the framework, not generated anew for each app.
Running it Vibe codingOn the builder’s platform, or deployed by hand by whoever can. ReventlessGenerated with the app, in your own cloud account, with alarms and a health screen.
What you can read Vibe codingCode, or nothing. ReventlessThe book of your app, in your words. A new employee or an auditor can read what the software does.
Ownership Vibe codingTied to a platform and its credits, or code nobody dares to touch. ReventlessYour repository, an open-source framework, and a choice of where it runs.

Why the difference grows every year

The question is not how fast the first version comes. It is what happens at the tenth change, and the hundredth.

Day one Vibe codingA running app in minutes. ReventlessA running first version in the workshop, after a day spent on what to build.
Month three: the first real changes Vibe codingEach change is a new request against code that grew without a plan. Fixing one thing quietly breaks another, and nothing notices. ReventlessEach change is a changed sentence or example. You see what it touches before anything is built, and a failing example says what else must move.
Year one: the app holds real data Vibe codingThe AI changes the database to fit new code, against live data. One bad request can lose records, and the reason a value is what it is was never kept. ReventlessThe history is never rewritten. The app changes how it reads the past, not the past itself.
Year two: the person who built it leaves Vibe codingThe knowledge was in the conversations, and they are gone. The next person reads code nobody understands, and often starts over. ReventlessThe next person reads the book and the examples, in your words. Nothing about why was lost.
Year three: an auditor, a regulator, a bigger customer Vibe codingSecurity and compliance are added to code that was never designed for them, which usually means rebuilding. ReventlessThe record of every decision exists from day one, permissions were declared, and the app can move to a sovereign cloud.
The cost of a change Vibe codingLow at first, then rising with every change, until the rewrite. ReventlessHigher on day one, because you say what you want. Then it stays flat.

Every quick route to a first version forces a rewrite at the moment of success, and vibe coding's comes soonest, because its code was never meant to be changed by anyone, the AI included. With Reventless the first version is the real system, and the hundredth change is as cheap as the first.

A house, with and without a plan

Without a plan

A very fast builder puts up a house room by room, from what you describe. It stands within a day and looks right. When the family wants a second floor, nobody knows which walls carry the load, and the builder who knew has forgotten.

With the plan

The same fast builder works from the architect's plan the family agreed to. An inspector checks every room against the plan before anyone moves in. The plan stays with the house, so the second floor is a change to the plan, not an excavation.

Where vibe coding is the right tool

A clickable mock-up for a pitch, a landing page, a one-off tool that holds no data anyone will need next year, a demo thrown away after the meeting. For those, vibe coding is faster than Reventless, and we will say so. The line is simple: if the software will hold data your business depends on, or has to change as your business changes, it should not be vibe coded.

Reventless also loses the first minutes: it asks questions before it shows a screen. The questions are the point.

In one paragraph

Yes, an AI can write you an app this afternoon. Ours writes code too. The difference is that ours has to pass your rules before anything runs, it asks you when it does not know instead of guessing, and it keeps a record of every decision your business makes. That does not matter on day one. It matters the tenth time you change it, the day your data matters, and the day the person who built it leaves.
