Drivers
Charge while they shop, on one of two tariffs: fixed, always full speed, or flexible, cheaper, but charging may be slowed down while the power grid is strained.
An example
The seven steps of how it works, told on one business from start to finish: first the business in thirty seconds, then each step as it would happen, seen from several sides.
Amperia is the example company our demos and videos use. It puts chargers for electric cars into supermarket car parks, so drivers can charge while they shop. Four kinds of people take part:
Charge while they shop, on one of two tariffs: fixed, always full speed, or flexible, cheaper, but charging may be slowed down while the power grid is strained.
The supermarkets. They earn a share of what their car park earns, and want to see it.
Runs the local power grid. At peak hours it asks Amperia to take load off an area for a while.
Amperia’s own staff. They set up sites and chargers and keep everything running.
Switch between what Amperia says, what the tool shows the room, and what runs at the end of the workshop’s second day.
Amperia’s brief
Amperia puts chargers into supermarket car parks.
Drivers sign up on a fixed or a flexible tariff.
When the grid operator asks for less load in an area, we turn down the flexible sessions there until the amount is reached.
A session on the fixed tariff is never turned down.
The tool asks: a flexible driver starts charging during a call. Turned down from the start?
A short brief in Amperia’s own words, or told in the workshop. Where it is silent, the tool asks instead of guessing.

Ben is on the fixed tariff and cannot be turned down.
At the end of day two this runs on a laptop with Amperia’s own sites entered. Emil answers a call by hand, and the app refuses to slow down Ben.
Within a week the same first version runs in Amperia’s own cloud account, with an address and sign-ins for the people in operations. Nobody has servers to look after.

At 16:40 the grid operator asks for 150 kW less in grid area N3, from 17:00 to 18:30. Switch between the people: each sees what is theirs, from one description, and nobody designed a screen.

And when something needs attention, operations get an e-mail: a charger that has not answered for an hour.
Version 1
A grid call arrives by phone. Emil turns the flexible sessions down by hand; the app keeps the rule and refuses the others.
Version 2
The call arrives in the app. Flexible sessions are turned down and back up by themselves, and each call is settled from what was really delivered and shared with the site owners.
The change is a new version of the brief, not a new project. Everything that happened in version 1 stays on record.
If a grid partner one day requires an EU-sovereign cloud, the same app moves without being rewritten, and we move its data with it.
